The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI), India’s drug regulator, on Sunday approved the use of two vaccines in the country amid the Corona epidemic. Two vaccines that DCGI has approved limited emergency use include Covishield, developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca in collaboration with Serum Institute of India and a fully indigenous covicin developed by domestic pharmaceutical company Bharat Biotech. Krishna Illah, chairman of Bharat Biotech, said, “Do not accuse us of being inexperienced, we are manufacturers of many vaccines”. He said, ‘It is wrong to say that we are not transparent about data’. But there is nothing secret in it. Bharat Biotech on Monday rejected the criticism that the vaccine was approved despite lack of efficacy data.
