Indian-origin Arvind Krishna Elected as the CEO of IBM

Indian-origin Arvind Krishna has been elected as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the US-based IT firm IBM. Arvind is a veteran technology officer. He will succeed the company’s current CEO, Virginia Rometty. The company’s board of directors has selected Krishna as the company’s new CEO in place of Rometty. Arvind will also be a member of the board of directors of the company.

In a press release for the company when he was elected CEO, Arvind said, “I am thrilled to be chosen as the new IBM executive. I am grateful for the trust Ginni and the board of directors have placed on me.”

Current IBM CEO Rometty has been associated with the company for nearly 40 years. She will retire later this year. Arvind will be appointed as IBM CEO on April 6. Krishna is currently Senior Vice President (Cloud & Cognitive Software) at IBM. 57-year-old Arvind joined IBM in the year 1990.

He will replace Virginia Rometty as IBM CEO. IBM, with a market cap of $ 12,588 million, has announced the new assignment of the CEO to the 57-year-old Arvind Krishna to be the new IBM CEO from 6 April. Arvind Krishna is currently working as Senior Vice President at IBM for Cloud and Cognitive Software. His current responsibilities include IBM Cloud, IBM Security and Cognitive Application Business and IBM Research. Arvind was also the general manager of the IBM Systems and Technology Group’s Development and Manufacturing Organization. He has led several IBM data related businesses. He joined IBM in the year 1990.

Regarding the appointment of Arvind Krishna, the current Virginia Rometty has said that Arvind is the best CEO for the next round at IBM. Apart from this, she said, he is a very good technologist, who has developed our important technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Cloud, Quantum Computing and Blockchain.

Krishna’s appointment as head of IBM adds to the growing list of Indian-origin executives at the helm of some of the biggest multinational companies. Krishna joins the club that includes Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, MasterCard CEO Ajay Banga, PepsiCo’s former CEO Indra Nooyi and Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen.
