It is the world’s first formaldehyde-free adhesive made of cellulose. It is not only safe and non-toxic, but also has good adhesion and water resistance. Products will soon be available on the market to provide consumers with healthier lifestyle products.

Lin Xianguang said that cellulose is the most abundant polymer existing in nature, and its production sources are mainly derived from wood pulp and cotton, and the annual global output can reach more than 100 billion tons. After about 5 years of research and development, the world’s first formaldehyde-free adhesive made of cellulose was born.

Lin Xianguang mentioned that the team encountered a bottleneck in the early stages of the research. The problem was that although the cellulose adhesive was strong, it was not water-resistant. It was opened after soaking in water. Such a composite board could not be used in the kitchen or bathroom. In order to break through the predicament in other humid environments, the research team integrated the concept of lipophilic resin technology and successfully passed the water resistance test. After the successful development of the product, it has won the favor of major international furniture chains. Among them, European well-known furniture brands are expected to gradually use formaldehyde-free wood adhesives by 2022.
