Stock Indices in the United States were Mixed on Thursday, November 18

Stocks in the United States closed mixed at the end of trading on Thursday, as indices were accompanied to the upside, and gains were recorded in the sectors of consumer services, technology and health services. On the other hand, losses were recorded in the telecommunications sectors, public institutions and industries, as the indices led down.

At the end of trading in New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average recorded a decline of 0.17%, while the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index climbed by 0.38% and the Nasdaq rose by 0.45%.

The biggest gainers of the day on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), which rose 2.85% or 4.38 points to trade at 157.87 at the close. On the other hand, Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) stock rose 2.79% or 11.00 points to close at 405.85, while Walmart Stores (NYSE:WMT) share increased 0.86% or 1.22 points to 143.16 in late trade.

As for the weakest performance at the end of trading today, the share of Cisco Systems Corporation (NASDAQ:CSCO) closed down at 5.51% or 3.13 points and traded at 53.63 levels at the close. Shares of American Express Corporation (NYSE:AXP) declined by 1.89% or 3.40 points to trade at 176.21, and 3M Group (NYSE:MMM) shares closed down 1.70% or 3.09 points to trade at 178.77.

On the other hand, the best performer in the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index was recorded by Macy’s Inc (NYSE:M), which rose by 21.17% to 37.37, and Kohls Corp (NYSE:KSS) also, which continued to rise at 10.62% and closed at levels of 62.48, as well as the share of An Vidya Group (NASDAQ:NVDA) that rose about 8.25% and ended its trading at 316.75.

Among the worst performers today were Helmerich and Payne Inc (NYSE:HP), which fell by 16.48% to end at 26.16, Nektar Therapeutics (NASDAQ:NKTR), which lost 8.48% to end at 11.76 and Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO), which weakened by 5.51% and closed at 53.63 today’s session on the stock exchange.

On the other hand, the best performer in the Nasdaq index was recorded by Longeviron (NASDAQ:LGVN), which rose by 135.27% to 6.870, and Dicerna Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:DRNA) was the other, and it continued to rise at 78.71% and closed at 38.03 levels. Also, Virtuoso Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:VOSO) share rose by 44.44% and ended its trading at 14.560.

Among the worst performers today were Amtech Systems Inc (NASDAQ:ASYS), which fell by 26.61% to end at 11.200, Femasys Inc (NASDAQ:FEMY), which lost 22.39% to settle at 4.99 and Gracil Inc. Biotechnologies (NASDAQ:GRCL), which weakened by 22.12% and closed at 8.98 today on the stock exchange.

The number of decliners exceeded the number of shares that closed higher with trading on the New York Stock Exchange with 2149 compared to 1109, while 121 remained unchanged. As for the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2612 of the shares fell and 1127 strengthened its position, while 177 of the shares maintained their value.

Shares of Macy’s Inc (NYSE:M) climbed to a record high in 3 years, and continued to rise towards 21.17%, or 6.53 points, at a price of 37.37. Shares of Nektar Therapeutics (NASDAQ:NKTR) fell to a 3-year low, losing 8.48% or 1.09 points to 11.76. The share of An Vidya Group (NASDAQ:NVDA) climbed to an all-time high, as it rose about 8.25% or 24.14 points, at 316.75. Shares of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) climbed to an all-time high, adding 2.85% or 4.38 points to a price of 157.87. Shares of Home Depot Corporation (NYSE:HD) climbed to an all-time high, rising 2.79% or 11.00 points, at 405.85. Shares of Femasys Inc (NASDAQ:FEMY) fell to all-time lows, losing 22.39% or 1.44 to 4.99. Virtuoso Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:VOSO) stock climbed to an all-time high, as it rose 44.44% or 4,480 points at a price of 14.560. Shares in Gracil Biotechnologies (NASDAQ:GRCL) fell to an all-time low, losing 22.12% or 2.55 to 8.98.

500 volatility index, which measures the implied standard deviation of options on the S&P 500 index traded 2.81% higher and closed at 17.59.

Gold futures contracts for December delivery fell 0.45%, or 8.45, and closed at $1861.75 an ounce. As for trading in other commodities, the WTI crude oil futures contract for January delivery rose 0.99% or 0.77 and reached a price of $78.32 a barrel, while the January contract for Brent oil contracts rose by 1.03% or 0.83 points, and closed at $81.11 a barrel.

The EUR/USD pair added 0.46% and traded at 1.1371 levels, while the USD/JPY continued to rise towards 0.15% and reached 114.25 levels.

The dollar index contracts were trading down 0.30% at the level of 95.53
