The BMW X5 and X6 xDrive40d Now Microhybrid with 48V System

It is increasingly common for cars to incorporate Mild Hybrid technology. This form of minor electrification does not involve much additional cost to manufacturers and, in this way, their vehicles receive some advantages. In our country, for example, microhybrids receive the ECO label from the DGT and that is an important advantage in large cities. Two models that get on the cart of this 48 V system are the BMW X5 and X6 xDrive40d.

This is the big SUVs of the brand (with the permission of the Mastodóntico BMW X7), the legendary BMW X5 that is already in its fourth generation and the BMW X6 in that coupe format that has just been updated. During the next month of May, microhybridization will arrive at the range of the xDrive40d diesel version, which consists of a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder block with turbocharger and, from now on, a small extra electric aid.

It is not the only electrified version that will be available in the range, we must not forget that there is also the BMW X5 xDrive45e iPerformance, a plug-in hybrid with an electrical range of up to 80 kilometers. And returning to the X5 xDrive40d and X6 xDrive40d, both will have the turbodiesel block that we have already mentioned and a 48 volt system that makes it gain some power. It stays in a total of 340 hp and 700 Nm of torque between 1,750 and 2,250 rpm.

The microhybrid versions of the BMW X5 and X6 may only be linked to the eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission and the brand’s all-wheel drive xDrive. This diesel mechanic has a catalyst and particle filter to comply with the next Euro 6d regulations. They also get quite decent consumption between 5.8 and 6.4 l / 100km and CO2 emissions between 153 and 167 g / km.

If we go into detail with the 48-volt system, its contribution is estimated at 11 additional HP and, in addition to improving efficiency, it also improves performance. Both the BMW X5 and the X6 xDrive40d can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.5 seconds. They will have several driving modes, like the rest of the range, the Eco-Pro being the most suitable for good consumption thanks to the advance by inertia, something that is also available in Comfort mode.
