There will be a Volkswagen ID.3 GTX in 2023

The Volkswagen ID.3 is one of the new generation electrics that is accumulating the most sales. It is the most balanced among the models based on the MEB platform and we already saw during its test that it had a good quality/price ratio. However, it still lacked some spice and a sports version was rumored to increase its capabilities. Now it seems that the arrival of a Volkswagen ID.3 GTX more performance is confirmed within a relatively short time.

It would be in 2023 and it would come with the facelift of the model, which comes before other conventional cars. It should not be forgotten that the Volkswagen ID.3 went on the market in 2020 and that the business cycles of most copies are around four years. It is a movement with a certain logic, since we have already seen GTX versions in other larger models such as the ID.4 GTX and ID.5 GTX. It is a new step in the German firm that wants to exploit sportsmanship in electrics.

Confirmation of the arrival of a Volkswagen ID.3 GTX has come from Martin Hube, spokesperson for the brand’s product range, who assured that “the project was progressing” and that with the facelift of the model “we will obtain some very interesting details and, of course, we are convinced that the customer’s expectations of a little more power. The base has already been established with the Volkswagen ID.X Concept prototype, although its arrival in production will be somewhat lighter.

The configuration will be similar to that of the ID.4 GTX with two electric motors, one located on each axle to achieve total traction. It is expected to be equipped with the 77 kWh lithium-ion battery, the highest capacity available in the model. The power to remain at 299 hp and its benefits would improve the 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds that its older brother does. The chassis would have a specific set-up to give it the character that this type of customer is looking for.

The future that awaits us seems to be almost completely electric, so it will be quite common in the coming years to see sports versions of this type. At Volkswagen, the GTX family will grow by leaps and bounds and the next to join will undoubtedly be the compact ID.3. In this way, the current GTI and R will remain in the background.
