NTT DATA announced that it has developed a technology that can visualize the characteristics of hit songs and predict music trends four months ahead by utilizing the technology “NeuroAI” that estimates the activity of the human brain. ..
In September 2019, the company started research that combines the information on Billboard JAPAN’s music charts held by Hanshin Content Link (Osaka City) and NeuroAI. Using 2185 hit songs that were ranked in the top 100 on the Japanese music chart from December 2016 to May 2008, we studied the activity of the brain when humans listen to hit songs. We have developed a technology to evaluate the characteristics of music from the activity of the brain.
In the research, NeuroAI predicts brain activity when listening to music every second. It has succeeded in visualizing the characteristics common to hit songs by analyzing it in combination with information such as music lyrics, chord progressions, and past music charts.
We have also developed a technology that predicts music trends up to 4 months ahead based on past trend patterns by organizing the analyzed music characteristics in chronological order. When I actually predicted the music chart for the 4th week of July 20th, I was able to predict the rise of rankings such as YOASOBI and Yorshka.
NTT DATA says that by utilizing these technologies, it will be possible to select CM songs that match trends and support music releases based on trends.
In the future, it plans to provide record companies and music streaming companies with services that support the discovery and marketing of artists and services that create playlists based on brain science.
