Volkswagen Puts 2,500 Employees on Collective Vacation due to Lack of Parts

According to a statement from the ABC Metalworkers Union, a shortage of semiconductors and other components forced the automaker to remove 55% of its employees from the production area.

Suffering from the lack of components, Volkswagen will put 2,500 employees at the factory in Sao Bernardo do Campo (Brazil)) on collective vacation.

The information was communicated by the ABC Metalworkers Union and confirmed by Volkswagen this Tuesday, 3.

According to the note, the metallurgists will be absent for 20 days, from May 9 to 28. Currently, the German manufacturer has 8,200 workers, of which 4,500 work only in production. In other words, the stoppage will affect 55% of employees in the manufacturing area.

The chip crisis, which began in mid-2021, was exacerbated by the war in Ukraine. But now, other parts and components are also becoming scarce, starting to affect the automaker’s production.

In April, Mercedes-Benz also had to resort to collective vacations, removing 5,600 workers from the factories in São Bernardo do Campo (SP) and Juiz de Fora (MG), mainly due to the lack of semiconductors.
