Volkswagen is Planning two New Factories in America

CEO Oliver Blume continues to restructure the group. Ironically, he is planning two major investments in the failed North American market, not only wanting to produce pick-ups and SUVs in new plants there, but also battery cells…

Volkswagen is planning to build a new factory for its new US SUV brand, Scout.

As early as May 2022, the Wolfsburg-based company announced that it would spin off an independent brand that would build electric off-road vehicles from 2026 that would be specially developed for US customers.

Wolfsburg hasn’t decided yet

A spokesman for Volkswagen said on request that a decision on whether to open a plant for Scout had not yet been made. However, he confirmed that Scout production should start in three years.

Audi boss Markus Duesmann had previously told the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung” that with the new subsidies “the construction of a US plant for electric cars has of course become highly attractive”. It is possible to have your own Audi plant or a plant with other VW Group brands. “However, there is a high probability that we will do this within the group.”

Volkswagen is currently expanding its US plant in Chattanooga / Tennessee. All-electric “ID” units are also to roll off the production line there in the future. According to earlier press reports, there is not enough space in Chattanooga for a new platform such as that required by Scout.
