Lady Gaga is one of the most influential popstars in the history of the music industry, but like any artist at the beginning of her career, she received “no” from many people before she became famous. One of them was the Brazilian creative director Giovanni Bianco, who accumulates work with big stars, such as Madonna, Gisele Bundchen and Anitta, in addition to having worked alongside iconic names in fashion.
Giovanni was approached by Gaga to create the cover of her first studio album, “The Fame”, which spawned iconic hits such as “Just Dance” and “Poker Face“. In an interview with the podcast “Sala de Espera”, the creative director was very sincere in revealing the reason that made him decline the proposal.
“Lady Gaga asked me to do her first album cover and I didn’t do it, I didn’t want to do it. I thought she was ugly… I didn’t understand her music, I made this big mistake. She wasn’t Lady Gaga, she was a normal girl and I looked at her and I wasn’t inspired. I didn’t understand music either, I told her no and that I didn’t have time, she had little money too”, she admitted.
GIOVANNI BIANCO AND LADY GAGA WORKED TOGETHER YEARS LATER
Anyone who thinks that Lady Gaga, winner of an Oscar, harbored regrets for the Brazilian director is wrong. Years later, Giovanni and she had the opportunity to, finally, do a job together and the singer dealt with the professional who one day rejected her with good humor.
“I went to work with her and she never forgot. We went to do the Versace campaign and the first thing she said when we met was that I didn’t want to work with her. It was hilarious, but she’s too much, wonderful”, he said. Giovanni.
