Euro Hype won’t Boost Interest in Women’s Bundesliga Survey Says

German women’s football may not benefit from European championship hype on the domestic level, according to a survey published on Wednesday.

The national team had a strong run into the Euro final in July in England amid big interest and record TV ratings back home.

But according to a YouGov online survey conducted among 2,126 people earlier in the week that success won’t prompt Germans to watch Bundesliga matches in larger numbers, with 49% saying they would not watch top flight games.

Twelve per cent were undecided while only 15% said they would watch games, and another 24% that they may watch games in the season starting in mid-September.

Players and officials hope that the Euro frenzy would boost the women’s game in Germany and raise Bundesliga attendance up from a current average of around 1,000 per game.
