GERMANY NEGOTIATION FOR “EUROPEAN CARS”THEREAT TO AMERICA
The German government continues to seek a negotiated solution to avoid US tariffs on European vehicles.
“This is the right path from our point of view,” German government spokesman Stephan Zeibert said Monday, referring to the current EU Commission talks with the United States on trade-related issues.
According to media reports, the US Department of Commerce has given President Donald Trump an estimate of whether the import of cars and spare parts will affect US national security.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said earlier this week that the US Department appeared to have concluded that imports were affecting US national security, describing the result as shocking.
At the same time, Zeibert said that the German government had not yet had the content of the survey conducted by the US Department of Commerce, adding that if the Americans applied such tariffs, this result will be analyzed very carefully.
