Hamilton Rides in Abu Dhabi and Wins Last GP of the Year
Hamilton rides in Abu Dhabi and wins last GP of the year; Alonso says goodbye to Formula 1 with 11th place.
Briton confirms favoritism seen in qualifying practice and, without being threatened, wins 73rd victory in F1; Vettel and Verstappen complete podium and Kimi leaves in Ferrari farewell.
Quietly, Lewis Hamiltou rode the Yas Marina Circuit to win the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the final stage of 2018 on Sunday afternoon. With the result, the Briton won his 11th victory of the year, 73 in his career to end the year with a golden key following the conquest of the pentacampeonato in Mexico.
Sebastian Vettel, second, and Max Verstappen, third, completed the podium. Both have benefited from Valtteri Bottas’ mistakes to win their respective positions. The Finn was still outscored by Daniel Ricciardo to receive the flag in fifth. From the top 6, only Kimi Raikkonen did not finish the race. The Ferrari driver had problems in the car and he left in melancholy form his last race for the team of Maranello.
The race was not filled with overtaking, characteristic of the Arab track, but it had some good disputes like the one of Verstappen and Ocon, at the beginning of the test, as well as the dispute of the pilot of RBR with Valtteri Bottas. On both occasions, the Dutch ended up playing in the rivals.
