IMEF Warns Mexican Economy Shows Less Capacity for Growth

The Mexican Institute of Finance Executives (IMEF) warned that at the end of 2021, the Mexican economy shows a lower capacity for growth, since investment is at the levels of 2011 and consumption has been weakened, which is why it urged focus attention on the design and deployment of a new development model that fosters high economic growth and is inclusive. In a statement, the IMEF stated that the conditions of uncertainty for the development of investment projects prevail and have been accentuated by various public policy measures and legal reform initiatives; Furthermore, as a result of the pandemic, there are fewer companies in the country. He explained that in 2022 there are six central issues that will affect Mexico’s economic growth: the effectiveness of the vaccination campaign against covid-19 and of preventive measures; the creation of sufficient conditions of certainty to promote the recovery of private investment; and the political environment and the autonomy of the institutions. The other three topics are: the stability of public finances; the evolution of inflation and monetary policy; and the link with the United States.

In this context, the IMEF assured that a new model of economic development requires a frank, open and purposeful dialogue between the government, the private sector, civil society organizations, and the legislative branch, which is a challenge in the context of a society that is divided and confronted.
