Iran Raises Production of Low-Enriched Uranium

Iran announced Monday that its production of enriched uranium has increased by 3.67 percent to four times.

“Following the recent decision of the Supreme National Security Council, Iran increased its production of enriched uranium by 3.67 percent to four times as of Monday,” Iran’s Atomic Energy Agency spokesman Behrooz Kamalundi was quoted as saying by the Tasnim news agency.

This came at a news conference for “Kamalundi”, in which he announced the lifting of production, quoting the director of the site “Natanz” uranium enrichment.

“This is not in the sense of raising the rate of enrichment, increasing the number of centrifuges or changing the quality of centrifuges. The production capacity of enriched uranium by 3.67 percent will increase to four times, and the IAEA will be informed of this,” he said.

He explained that Iran will exceed the ceiling of 300 kilograms of its production of enriched uranium by 3.67%, and it is better for other parties to implement the necessary procedures quickly, according to the agency.

Kemalundi pointed out that Iran is moving towards reducing its obligations under the nuclear agreement so that the European countries will implement their commitments. If this happens, it will return to the previous situation. Otherwise, Iran will take its other steps.

The decision comes amid tension between Tehran and Washington, amid mutual warnings from both sides, and a direct threat from Iran to target Americans.
