LinkedIn Close Job Application in China

In a statement, the CEO said that the changes are aimed at simplifying the company’s operations. Exiting China is another step in a process that began in 2021.
LinkedIn has announced it will lay off 716 employees and phase out an app that offers local jobs in China. The changes to the platform were communicated this Monday.
The company, which has about 20,000 employees, is yet another among technology companies to carry out layoffs. Recently cuts have also been made by Meta, Alphabet and Amazon. In six months, the wave of layoffs in big techs affected 270,000 workers.
LinkedIn CEO Ryan Roslansky sent a statement to employees saying the cuts are aimed at streamlining the company’s operations. The layoffs must happen in sales, operations and support sectors.
“We are also removing layers, reducing management roles and expanding responsibilities to make decisions faster,” he said.
On the other hand, the CEO stated that the changes will also generate 250 jobs. Employees who will be hit by the cuts will be able to apply.
Regarding operations in China, LinkedIn must deactivate the service it has in the country, known as InCareer, in August.
In 2021, LinkedIn announced that it would leave China, saying it faced a “challenging” environment in the country. Since then, InCareer was the remaining service that the platform offered to Chinese people.
