Many Biscuits are Increasingly Difficult to Find on Store Shelves in France

Food: Pepito, Oreo, Petit Ecolier… Many biscuits are increasingly difficult to find.

Many biscuits are becoming increasingly rare on store shelves in France: Pepito, Pim’s, Granola, Petit Ecolier… This is what Olivier Dauvers, consumer expert, recently revealed on his blog, reports BFMTV.

All these cakes are produced by Mondelez. No raw material supply problem is involved here. The food giant recently explained that one of its factories had been “stopped in Belgium for a major cleaning” after the possible presence of salmonella.

Possible salmonella contamination
According to Olivier Dauvers, an audit was carried out on all the industrial sites of Mondelez and many production lines were therefore stopped, as in the Cestas factory (Gironde). It is this situation that has caused the out of stock that we can see in stores since the beginning of August.

Mondelez certainly wants to avoid the same scandal as Ferrero, who faced hygiene issues and salmonella contaminations at a Belgian factory, leading to the production of infected Kinder treats. Several million products had to be recalled and the factory had been closed.

Mondelez, which has 39% market share in France in the sweet biscuits segment, recalls BFMTV, anticipated and used the precautionary principle. He hopes “a resumption of production in the coming weeks”.
