Minimum Wage will Increase to 12 Euros an Hour in Germany

Two million German workers will receive a 25% minimum wage increase. According to the news advanced by “CNN”, this Thursday, this agreement reached through the coalition of the new government, which has three political parties.

Thus, the coalition proposed an increase in the minimum wage to 12 euros an hour  increase from the current 9.60 euros per hour, making this one of the first measures proposed by the executive led by Olaf Scholz.

According to ING economist Carsten Brzeski, this wage increase will encompass around 5% of workers in Germany and is “clearly significant”.

Prospects already showed an increase for July 2022 of 10.45 euros. The coalition that has now taken over the government has chosen not to put forward the date on which this increase will take place.
