NVIDIA and MediaTek Partner to Bring AI to Cars

NVIDIA and MediaTek said Monday that they will work together to bring artificial intelligence to advanced infotainment systems in cars, allowing for video streaming, games, or interaction with drivers.

And the American electronic chip giant, NVIDIA, said in a post on its blog: “MediaTek, a leader in the field of communication and multimedia, is collaborating with NVIDIA to provide new experiences for drivers and passengers inside the car.”

Under the agreement, announced at the Computex technology trade fair in Taipei, Taiwan, MediaTek will integrate NVIDIA‘s GPU microchip and automotive software into the MediaTek chips it provides to automakers for use with infotainment screens.

The two companies said that the MediaTek chips that use NVIDIA software will be compatible with the latter’s automated driving systems, with which dashboard screens can display the environment surrounding the car, and monitor the driver’s movements with cameras.

It is noteworthy that displays and in-car infotainment systems are becoming more complex, as automakers add features such as: games, artificial intelligence for voice-activated features, driver monitoring systems, and screens related to automated driving.

Qualcomm, MediaTek’s first competitor in the smartphone market, has also sought to attract automakers. Earlier this year it announced a partnership with SalesForce to develop a new platform for connected vehicles.

NVIDIA and MediaTek said the partnership provides the former with broader access to the $12 billion infotainment system market on chips.

NVIDIA focused on high-end car brands, such as: Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar Land Rover. MediaTek, which has its base in the Android smartphone chip segment, sells its Dimensity Auto technology to its lower-priced car lines.

It is noteworthy that the announcement of the partnership between NVIDIA and MediaTek comes in conjunction with the announcement of the American company today, Monday, about NVIDIA Avatar Cloud Engine for Games, a new service for forming custom artificial intelligence models that will revolutionize the video game industry by bringing intelligence to “non-playable” characters from Through natural language interactions powered by artificial intelligence.

NVIDIA announces technology that “animates” game characters using generative AI

NVIDIA Corporation today announced NVIDIA Avatar Cloud Engine for Games, a new custom AI modeling service that will transform the video game industry by bringing intelligence to “non-playable” characters through natural language interactions powered by artificial intelligence.

The US electronic chip giant said in a blog post that developers of middleware, tools and games can use the Avatar Cloud Engine for Games to create custom AI models that are able to speak and move, and then deploy them in their programs and games.

“Generative AI has the potential to revolutionize the interaction players can have with game characters and increase immersion in games,” said (John Spitzer), vice president of developers and performance technology at NVIDIA.

And (Spitzer) added: “Based on our expertise in the field of artificial intelligence and decades of experience working with game developers, NVIDIA is leading the use of generative AI in games.”

The new NVIDIA service comes with a number of components, which can be used together or separately, such as: the NVIDIA NeMo component that builds, customizes, and publishes language models using private data.
