Peugeot Ready to Review Huawei Partnership

Peugeot will review the partnership with Huawei if U.S. authorities deem it a necessary condition to approve the merger with Fiat Chrysler , said CEO Carlos Tavares.

The French automaker needs the consent of the U.S. authorities to complete the $ 50 billion merger with Fiat Chrysler at a time when Washington is pressing on European allies to exclude the Chinese giant from the continent’s TLC infrastructure.

“We have a partnership with Huawei, which is linked to another partnership with the French telecommunications company Orange, we are not in direct relationship with them. But surely on this topic we will listen to the American authorities and follow all their instructions,” said Tavares.

“If there were questions or directions from the American authorities, we would be eager to follow them,” said Tavares.

France has so far ruled out the idea of discriminating against Huawei as a provider for the country’s 5G networks.

In 2017, Peugeot teamed up with Huawei to develop a cloud-based connected vehicle system that has been used on six million cars in Europe and China.
