Japanese automaker Subaru has unveiled a special limited edition of the Subaru Impreza STI, a double-propulsion sportswear. A car that has won the Raleigh Rally thanks to a successful participation in the races and is now largely a reminder of the era that has passed – when its main rival, Mitsubishi Lancer Ivo, has given up and Subaru itself is not participating in the rally.

The special edition, which will be offered in only 200 units – all to the American market – is called the S209, in the tradition of the “S” models offered to date only as special editions in Japan. It has a 2.5 liter engine with four cylinders, and Subaru estimates that the maximum power will be 341 hp – 41 times more than STI, which is marketed in Israel.

The S209 engine underwent a series of updates, including higher stacking pressure (18.0 PSI vs. 16.2 in the normal model), cooling system improvement, and more. The chassis is about 4 cm wide, mainly thanks to plastic slats on the wheel houses (now 284 cm), and the axle separator is 1.5 cm wider for a better posture. 265/35 Dunlop SP sports Max GT600A model, which will help Subaru say to create a power of more than 1.0 g.

Further improvements: The suspension was re-calibrated, the brakes (manufactured by Brembo) were upgraded and various aerodynamic aids were added, including a front spoiler and a large rear wing. The S209 will be available from the end of the year in the US alone, and in two shades of a white or blue vehicle (used by Subaru’s legendary rally models).
