The New iPhones: Small Upgrades, Huge Screens

Apple’s announcement event was fairly modest, but innovations like the giant OLED screen of the iPhone Xs Max and the advanced image editing feature are expected to excite some users. A Ynet correspondent and Yedioth Ahronoth checked the devices.

Apple’s launch event was not without surprises: once every two years, the company launched the S models that include minor.

But if the upgrades were small, the screens were huge. The highlight of the event was the iPhone Xs Max (“iPhone 10s Max”), the largest (and most expensive) Apple ever released, and in fact one of the largest smartphones in the market. Not less than 6.5 inches, which is about the same as a compact tablet.

From our experience, as well as the impressions of many others present at the event, you can already determine that the Xs Max is really not too big. Although the screen is huge, thanks to the narrow margins, the physical size of the device does not exceed the iPhone 7 or 8 plus from previous years. All in all, he feels comfortable and natural in his hand, and because of the glass coating on the back he also remains stable and not slippery. Anyone who has used one of the iPhone’s plus models in the past and has loved it will undoubtedly feel comfortable with the iPhone Xs Max. Conversely, if the plus was too big for you, you will not get along with Max.

The display itself is stunning: the OLED screen is similar in quality to the iPhone X, the colors are bright and bold – making media consumption from the device ever more enjoyable: reading articles and books or watching movies and series makes this screen as good as a small tablet. But for the pleasure you will have to say goodbye to at least $ 1,099.

Apple’s launch event was not without surprises: once every two years, the company launched the S models that include minor upgrades, without any design changes or significant innovations. This year, unfortunately, this is the “Year of S” and since most of the details were leaked in advance, the event at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino was more modest and less exciting than last year.

But if the upgrades were small, the screens were huge. The highlight of the event was the iPhone Xs Max (“iPhone 10s Max”), the largest (and most expensive) Apple ever released, and in fact one of the largest smartphones in the market. The announcement of the new iPhones

Next to Max we also met his little brother, the iPhone Xs (“iPhone 10s”). It is almost identical to the iPhone X from 2017, with a 5.8-inch screen. The Xs feel the same as the previous generation, and the main changes are under the hood: the A12 processor, which is supposed to provide faster performance and energy efficiency, a new glass coating that is more resistant to falls and improved water resistance (the table is two meters deep for 30 minutes). Facial recognition should also be more agile. We can not say from the short use that we felt better performance, and it seems that we need more time with the device to determine whether there is indeed a significant difference. Its price? 999 dollars, like the iPhone X.

The iPhone Xs and the Xs Max share essentially the same specifications and capabilities, and the only difference is size. Both come with one significant innovation – the portrait state. Now, like many Android devices, you can control the depth of the image and focus or blur the background as you like by scrolling a cursor on the screen. “This is a breakthrough in photography on a smartphone,” Apple says. We do not know about this, but it’s definitely a feature that is supposed to further improve the excellent camera of the iPhone.
