The New Volkswagen Gol will be Presented in 2025 Characteristics in Common with the Skoda Fabia

With so much history and recognition in the region, it was almost impossible for Volkswagen to let Gol die without continuity. Now we know that, after an impasse when production ends this year, the iconic model will return, converted as the market dictates, into a crossover. Internally called Project 246, the Brazilian website Auto+ obtained more information about it.
The press from the neighboring country had been the first to anticipate this transformation of the Gol in January, even together with Overboost.br they had made a series of recreations that anticipated much of its appearance. This week, according to Auto+, they had the opportunity to talk with a source close to the project who revealed some information to them: “You got almost everything right, only the internal design of the headlights is wrong and the front bumper is a little different.” , he indicated.
So, let’s review what those projections showed: following the idea that the Gol will become a crossover with a concept quite similar to that of the Nivus but positioned below, the designers anticipated how it could look in this new era for the model that carries more 30 years of success in South America. In this case, they add a feature that could occur in future company products for the region: take advantage of the matrices and components of other brands such as Skoda or Seat. Just as the Taos has many similarities with the Seat Ateca and the Skoda Slavia marketed in India is a kind of redesigned Virtus, the future Gol could be based on the Skoda Fabia. From the hatchback of the Czech brand, it would take a large part of the design of the sides and its silhouette, obviously adapted to the Volkswagen design language. To crossover it, I’d add adventurous Nivus-inspired details like bumper and wheel arch protection, roof racks, and two-tone bodywork with a black roof. The result looks very attractive, like a kind of “mini-Nivus”. Inside doors, the strategy would be similar, incorporating a large part of the Fabia board.
Developed on the MQB-A00 or A0 IN platform, it is a variant of the well-known MQB-A0 architecture but more simplified and is currently used by the aforementioned Skoda Slavia. Production would continue at the Taubaté plant, which is currently undergoing modernization work to receive said platform. Mechanically, the new Gol should use the 1.0 TSI gasoline engine in the 95 hp and 116 hp configuration (or 128 hp with ethanol), associated with both a manual gearbox and an automatic transmission, although they also raise the possibility of using the 1.6 110 hp MSI for export only.
According to said source, the Gol crossover, which will be positioned above the Polo Track but which in turn will represent the entry model to the Volkswagen SUV range, will be presented in 2025.
