The StopCovid Application Targets June 2 for its Launch
Guest of BFM Business, France’s Minister of State for Digital, Cedric O announces that StopCovid will be tested from May 11 with the aim of being ready for June 2, for the second phase of deconfinement.
Should we bury StopCovid since the application will not be ready for May 11, the date of the start of deconfinement?
The answer is “no” announces Secretary of State for Digital Cedric O, invited Tuesday morning from BFM Business. For him, the government is following its initial roadmap and “development time is progressing relatively well. We will enter the test phase next week, that is to say that we will reproduce real situations to verify that the application is working well ”.
Next week will therefore be devoted to tests, and if all goes well, the device will be presented to the National Assembly in three weeks since the goal is “to ensure that we can come back to parliamentarians in the week of May 25 to consider deployment during the second phase of deconfinement from June 2 “.
Justifying the choice of a “centralized” solution for the protection of private data and the access of health organizations, Cedric O reminds that the CNIL will have its say. He also ensures that this application will still work on all phones, including the iPhone, even if France has turned its back on the solution developed by Apple and Google. “Apple could have helped us to make it work even better on iPhones,” he explains, suggesting that it will not be optimal.
The announced date for the end of confinement is approaching and the StopCovid application is still not operational. Between the blocking of Apple for the exploitation of Bluetooth by the app, the problems related to the confidentiality of the data, the decision to present it before the parliament, StopCovid seems well entangled. However, Cedric O, the Secretary of State for Digital Affairs remains confident and takes stock of each blocking point in a long column published on Medium. According to him, the first full-scale tests could be conducted from the first day of deconfinement, May 11.
