The Telegram Messaging Service will Start Showing Ads Next Year

The encrypted and anonymized messaging service Telegram has grown enormously in recent years and is now approaching 500 million users.

As a result, the company’s founder, Pvale Durov, says that in 2021 Telegram will start via advertisements to cover part of its costs, Engadget reports.

The ads will not appear in private conversations but in Telegram‘s various open chat channels that users can subscribe to if they wish. Some of these open channels already show ads through third-party platforms.

Pvale Durov criticizes these ads for being intrusive and trying to look like ordinary messages. He promises that Telegram’s own first-party ads will not do this and that Telegram in everything they do will continue to protect users’ privacy.

All of Telegram’s functions, which are free of charge today, will continue to be so in the future
