About 100 Hong Kong residents have fallen victim to gang frauds on Facebook, as fraudsters have announced the sale of boxes containing 100 masks at a price of up to 400 Hong Kong dollars (51 US dollars) on the social media platform but have yet to deliver the products yet. Money from buyers, taking advantage of citizens’ gags, coinciding with an outbreak of the Corona virus, according to the South China Morning Post, citing Democratic Party member Ramon Yuen Hui Man.
Yuen, who accompanied four victims who reported fraud in a police station, said that the victims had lost 60,000 Hong Kong dollars (7,700 dollars) in total, as he said: “These Facebook page officials who sell face masks have similar practices when deceiving consumers, I think there is a gang behind them. Some pages left the same contact numbers and used the same format in their posts. These scammers are very cunning because they change their slogans and names to avoid being discovered. “
