Turkey’s Ambassadors Summoned to Foreign Affairs of Germany for Osman Kavala Verdict

The decision on the Gezi Park case created tension on the Ankara-Berlin line. Following the aggravated life sentence for Osman Kavala in the Gezi Park trial, Turkey’s Ambassador to Berlin Ahmet Başar Şen was summoned to the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs. While Ankara responded in the same way, it was alleged that Deputy Foreign Minister Faruk Kaymakcı lashed out at the German diplomat.

The verdict of the Gezi Park case, which was given during the week, continues to be discussed in the international public opinion.

Turkey’s Berlin Ambassador Ahmet Başar Şen was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany yesterday after Osman Kavala was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment and other defendants were sentenced in the Gezi Park trial.

While Turkey reacted harshly to this move of the Berlin administration, Germany’s Ambassador to Ankara Jurdgen Schulz was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the face of this development. Sources speaking to the UK-based news agency Reuters reported that Schulz and Deputy Foreign Minister Faruk Kaymakcı met.

Sources told Reuters: “We told Ambassador Schulz that the call of our ambassador in Berlin to the foreign ministry for a case in our country is a violation of diplomatic norms and that this case is politicized.”

Sources from Ankara said, “Kaymakçı also stated that the decision taken by the independent Turkish judiciary is unquestionable, and underlined that Germany’s move is to interfere in internal affairs.”

GERMANY WAS ALSO IN 10 AMBASSADOR CRISES

The Council of Europe announced that the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights were not implemented in the Osman Kava case this year and said that Kavala should be released.

In October last year, there was tension between Ankara and 10 countries. The embassies of 10 countries, including the USA, Germany, Canada and France, published a message in Turkey, but later this tension ended.
