Volvo Could Launch A Small Electric SUV Located Under the XC40

A Volvo XC 20 under the upcoming XC40, which would then be called the XC20 and would arrive in the years to come.

Launched in 2018, the Volvo XC40 allowed the brand to enter a whole new segment, that of compact SUVs, which it had previously neglected. Available in thermal, plug-in hybrid and electric versions, the youngest of the Swedish firm was voted “Car of the Year 2018” and met with great success from its launch, becoming the best-selling model of the range in 2019.

Called XC20, this new model would then be the very first to be based on the new platform exclusively dedicated to electric vehicles, developed by Volvo’s parent company, namely Geely. Already used for one of the concepts of Lynk & Co, this technical basis will subsequently be used for production models, as confirmed by the boss of the Swedish firm, which has already been proven by many manufacturers, whether Mini, but also DS with its DS 3 Crossback or Audi with its Q2, which will then become a of the main targets of this Volvo XC20 when it comes into being. For now, no technical information has yet been released on this small electric SUV. As a reminder, the Volvo XC40 Recharge has two zero-emission engines developing a total of 408 horsepower, associated with a 75 kWh battery rechargeable in 40 minutes on a fast terminal. If nothing has been confirmed, we could probably expect to find a single engine on the future Volvo XC20, as well as a battery with a slightly reduced capacity, due to the interior size. Either way, it will still take a little patience, as Volvo is not giving any reveal or release date for its future SUV yet. Either way, let’s remember that the brand wants half of its sales to be electric models by 2025, which already gives us a little idea.

Also is claimed that the next 40 Series model will be released in 2021, in still unknown form, while the previous V40 left the catalog last year. A larger model, dubbed the XC100 could also see the light of day, becoming the flagship of my brand, a role currently occupied by the imposing Volvo XC90.
