White House Twitter Followers would not Automatically Forwarded to Biden
Twitter said on Tuesday it would not automatically transfer the millions of subscribers from official Trump administration accounts to those in the Biden administration, leaving that choice to users.
This move affects people following U.S. government managed accounts such as @WhiteHouse (White House account) and @POTUS (President of the United States, ), who will be transferred when Democrat Joe Biden will take over the presidency in January.
However, it will not affect Donald Trump’s personal account, @realDonaldTrump, which is frequently used by the Republican president and has some 88 million subscribers.
Official government accounts “will not automatically keep their existing subscribers,” the social network said in a statement.
“Twitter will inform the subscribers of these accounts of the change of context as well as that the content will be archived and allow them to choose to follow the new accounts of the Biden administration”, adds the text.
“For example, people who follow @WhiteHouse will be notified that the account has been archived as @ WhiteHouse45 (45 for 45th president) and will have the option to follow the new @WhiteHouse account,” the famous social network also explained.
Twitter is working on the transition of the platform that has been widely used by Donald Trump.
While not as followed as Donald Trump’s personal account, @POTUS has some 33 million followers and @WhiteHouse has 26 million.
The transfer will also affect other institutional accounts such as @VP, @FLOTUS, @PressSec, @Cabinet and @LaCasaBlanca, according to Twitter.
