With Facebook Apps, EU Companies Billed 208 Billion
The use of Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp has helped European companies to generate a turnover of around 208 billion euros and about 3.1 million jobs in 2019. These are the results of a study that Facebook commissioned from Copenhagen Economics, involving more than 7,700 companies from all sectors and sizes in 15 countries of the Union. It also emerges that 25 million companies in the EU use these platforms. In Italy, moreover, according to an Ipsos study, 44% of SMEs say that these platforms favor business development in our country, while 40% say that they have contributed to strengthening their activities.
According to the Copenhagen Economics survey, companies generated around 98 billion euros through exports through Facebook apps. Of these, 58 billion were generated by sales made within the EU and 40 billion by sales in the rest of the world. And it is above all companies founded by women that attach importance to social media: 58% of these companies have in fact declared that these platforms have been fundamental for starting a business, while 65% explained that they have contributed to growing their business.
Six in 10 companies said Facebook apps are important in lowering marketing costs and a similar number said Facebook apps are important in improving customer service. “Six in 10 businesses using Facebook apps report them as helpful to enter markets, and 7 in 10 businesses using Facebook apps are exporting to other countries compared to 5 in 10 non-users,” the report mentioned.
The study also found that female-founded businesses, in particular, credit social media with helping them to start and grow their businesses. “Fifty-eight per cent of female-founded businesses surveyed said that Facebook apps are important for enabling them to start businesses, while 65 per cent said it helped grow their revenue,” said the report.
“Digital tools allow companies and customers to interact at lower costs and with higher frequency than other media,” explains the Copenhagen Economics survey.
