Meta’s WhatsApp company announced this morning (Tuesday) the addition of two new features in the application: muting calls from unknown numbers and checking privacy – both are already available to users. The new features join a series of updates added by the company recently, including protecting sensitive chats with a password, hiding temporary messages, blocking screenshots in one-time viewing and the ability to maintain the privacy of users’ online presence.

Mute calls from unknown numbers feature is designed to provide more privacy and control in the management of incoming calls. It allows filtering spam, scams and also calls from unknown people that are received in the application. These calls will not make the phone ring but will be visible in the list of calls, in case it turns out later that it is an important call.

WhatsApp allows you to filter unknown or unwanted calls.
The second feature, privacy check, will guide users step by step in setting important privacy settings and help choose the appropriate level of protection for them. After you select the “privacy check” option in the privacy settings, the system will guide you through the process of adding multiple privacy layers that strengthen the security of your messages, calls and personal information.

Better control over your privacy in the WhatsApp application.
As you may remember, at the beginning of this month, WhatsApp launched the “channels” feature, which appears under a new tab called “updates”, where you can see the status and the content of the channels you have chosen to follow – separately from the regular chats. According to WhatsApp, the channels are not end-to-end encrypted by default because they are aimed at the general public. “We believe that there are certain cases where end-to-end encrypted channels may be suitable for a limited audience, for example an association or a health organization, and we are looking into this as a possibility that will be possible in the future,” he said.
