The USA and Venezuela held a meeting
In March 2022, in the context of the oil supply crisis caused by the invasion ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin in Ukraine, US officials held a high-level meeting with their Venezuelan counterparts in Caracas to explore the possibility of Venezuela’s oil reaching the United States again, however, there was no agreement.
At one point, the United States was the largest single market for oil for Venezuela, until the bilateral relationship fragmented.
At the high-level meeting held in March, the talks stalled due to the difficulties of establishing a dialogue between Maduro and the opposition leader Juan Guaido, recognized by Washington as interim president of Venezuela.
According to sources close to Whashington, US officials would be waiting for Maduro and the opposition to show progress in the negotiation before evaluating the extension of Chevron’s license.
