A new tool to Remove Personal Content that you don’t Want to be Found on Google

Google is now launching a new tool called Results about you that will first reach users in the United States, but is expected to make its way to other places and languages later. According to the company, this tool is supposed to simplify the process of removing search results containing personal details from the search engine, and even performs a certain automation of it.

Through Result about you, there is no longer any need to manually search for personal details that somehow got mixed up in the search engine: Google is the one that will try to find such details, and will alert the user about it on its own initiative. With one click, you will send a request to Google to remove these details, instead of filling out the aforementioned form, and Google will make sure to inform the user later that the details have indeed been removed from the search engine. In case the personal information found its way back to Google again, the company will come back and alert you about it.

In addition, the company offers additional tools for sending requests to remove images from its image search engine. Also, from now on and for all users, the default will be a ‘safesearch that automatically hides images of a pornographic nature.

Google emphasizes again that removing the link to the information within the search engine is not equivalent to removing the information from the Internet – it will still be accessible on the site where it was published. Google is not responsible for cleaning the web of private information, but only removing the links to it from its search engine.

Summary

For over a year now, Google has made it possible to contact it with requests to remove personal details, such as phone numbers and residential addresses, from the search results, but until now the process was not simple enough: the user was required to fill out a detailed form regarding the details he wishes to remove, and wait a long time - sometimes Shavuot - for the company's reference to the request.
