Ford Mustang Mach-E Divides…
An enthusiast of the Ford Mustang has launched a petition asking the brand to change the name of its new Mustang Mach-E SUV.
Since its revelation a few days ago, the Ford Mustang Mach-E divides. If on the one hand, many appreciate its look and its references to the pony-car on which it is inspired, others, on the contrary, do not see the arrival of this SUV with a very good eye. This is particularly the case of fans of the best-selling sports in the world, especially the American Jimmy Dinsmore, who is not really happy, and who knows. And for good reason, this enthusiast coupe V8, having to his credit several books dedicated to him has just launched a petition simply asking Ford to change the name of his Mustang Mach-E. According to him, this electric SUV has nothing to do with the pony-car, and should not bear his name.
This fervent defender of the American sports has indeed told our colleagues at Motor1 that “What makes many of us unhappy is the abandonment of the legacy and history of the company. Putting the name Mustang on a four-door SUV and AWD is insulting to Mustang clubs and fans of this model that have been supporting this product for more than five decades. I implore Ford to listen to our voices and respect the Mustang legacy and not bastardize it that way. “If the electric motorization does not seem to pose too many problems, it is the body that bother” Electrification is not the problem with the Mustang Mach-E. It’s about putting the Mustang name on something that’s not a pony-car, like Gale Halderman originally designed it, a muscular two-door, low-slung, long-hooded car – not an SUV very common on the market. ”
But then, what will Ford do?
If already nearly 12,500 people have signed the petition, not sure that Ford decides to reconsider his decision and rename his Mustang Mach-E, while filiation with the pony car is also one of his main sell arguments. However, we know that the brand with the blue oval is very attentive to its customers, as it had proved in the 90s, by removing the Mustang appellation from its model developed in partnership with Mazda, which became so the one we all know as Probe. More recently, Amko Leenarts, Ford’s design director, told us that the name of the new Ford Puma was inspired by customers who saw the SUV’s style as similar to the famous little 90s coupe. to know if the manufacturer will be ready to listen to the grievances of the fans of his original Mustang!
As a reminder, this Ford Mustang Mach-E has a 100% electric engine with two levels of batteries, 75.7 and 98.8 kWh, for powers between 258 and 337 horses, while a GT version more powerful will be launched a little later. Inside, the SUV gets closer to what Tesla offers, by integrating on its dashboard a large 15.5-inch touch screen, associated with a digital handset. This newcomer in the range will be available to order at the beginning of next year, for a price starting at € 48,990.
