Melania Freire “Mercedes-Benz Fashion Talent 2019 Award”

Madrid Fashion Week yesterday gave the kick-off to this festival of the Spanish textile industry. In what is now known as Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, Madrid participates, season after season, some of the most important names in national design.

However, this catwalk also serves to discover new faces within the industry, which each year surprise with their fresh look and renewed vision of fashion. And precisely because they are the present and future of Spanish fashion, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Madrid, together with Samsung, celebrates the Samsung Ego catwalk, with the aim of giving support and visibility to new talent. This year, in the 68th edition of the Madrid catwalk, it was Galician Melania Freire who won the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Talent award.

Melania Freire has won the Samsung Ego catwalk award with a collection highly influenced by art and with references by David Hockney. As the creator herself explains, the award-winning collection was presented as a great appropriationist painting, where the prints and patterns of the garments were reproductions and cut-outs, hand-painted on the fabric, of the swimming pool paintings.

With the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Talent award, the name of Melania Freire, until now unknown to most, will be part of the national fashion scene. In fact, one of the prizes that this appointment includes is the direct pass to the fashion week in Prague. Do not forget the Galician designer because her career has only just begun.
