Mobile Banking Doubled in Italy

Mostly young people living in the North and with high education: this is the identikit of digital account holders according to the latest edition of CheBanca!

Digital Banking Index, the observatory that measures how digital is changing the relationship between bank and customers. In the last three years, according to the report, there are 19.2 million users (62.4% of Italian online adults) that Italians regularly access their current accounts through the online, via the Web or the App, a real and the army has grown by 3 million users in three years and manages about 26 million online accounts.

But mobile banking is a real boom, recording + 106% on 2015. The identification of the “new” online account holders are on average younger (55% are under 45), mainly men (56 , 9%), live in the North and have a higher education. Unstoppable growth, that of on-line banking, which is integrated with traditional channels, with the branch that remains an important point of reference for customers, especially for the most complex transactions.

What are the habits of online account holders? Users prefer to access their online account via the web (via computer), although they are showing a downward trend (from 75.5% in 2015 to 66.8% in 2018). On the contrary, the spread of smartphones and apps, there is a boom in mobile banking with the doubling of users (+ 106%), from 3.5 million in 2015 to 7.3 in 2018: today there are almost four online account holders out of ten (38%) are mobile banking users. The main operations carried out by online account holders concern the consultation of the statement and information documents (80%) and the payment provisions such as credit transfers, F24 payments and telephone top-ups, indicated by 67% of the sample (+9 pp on 2015) ), but also increases the use for postal payment and fines payments (40%).
