A new type of coronavirus broke out in Wuhan, China in early January, and so far two people have died and more than 40 people are ill.

On Monday, the virus was first detected outside China when the infection was confirmed in a woman in Thailand. On Thursday, another case was confirmed in Japan.

Friday, Asia Times writes that Thailand has detected the virus for the second time, this time with a visitor from China.

The virus is in the same family as SARS, which caused a global epidemic in 2002 and 2003. Then 744 lives were lost.

The corona virus is also related to MERS, which since 2012 has taken 803 lives.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has so far warned hospitals around the world. In China, people work around the clock to find out more about the mysterious virus.

The virus probably broke out in a seafood market in Wuhan, which has been closed since January 1. The 30-year-old Japanese man who has been diagnosed with the virus states that he has not been on the market. Nor had the woman infected in Thailand visited the market.

There are only nine days to Chinese New Year, a holiday in which many Chinese travel around both Asia and the world. Among other things, it is expected that 800,000 Chinese will travel to Thailand to celebrate the holiday.

Several nearby countries are checking every visitor from Wuhan for symptoms of the viral infection, and security is escalating in anticipation of many Chinese travelers. Several countries store protective equipment, prepare isolation beds and board trains to check passengers who may be infected with the virus.

Chinese authorities said on Wednesday that the virus may have spread among family members, thus opening the likelihood of the virus spreading between humans.
