New Super Battery Supposedly Allows 1000 Kilometers Range

So far, the solid-state battery is the next big leap forward in e-car batteries. Now there may be an alternative.
A novel super battery is supposed to revolutionize electromobility. According to the company, the Swiss start-up Innolith has developed a lithium-ion battery with an enormous energy density. In addition, the technology should be cheap and safe.

At the heart of the energy storage system is the electrolyte: Instead of flammable organic compounds, an inexpensive inorganic fluid is used that is more fire-resistant and more stable. For this reason, an energy density of 1000 watt-hours per kilogram should be possible – three to four times the value of current lithium-ion batteries..Batteries would thus offer four times as much coverage for the same size or only one-quarter for the same range. The “Energy Battery” called batteries would thus be more efficient than solid batteries, which are currently considered as the next step in the technical development. Accordingly, the Innolith battery would mean a huge leap forward in the field of emobility. Current e-cars would be abruptly outdated at the same time – which would be a problem for their resale.

The company, with headquarters in Basel and laboratories in Bruchsal, Baden-Baden, Germany, intends to launch the battery first through a pilot production in Germany, followed by licensing partnerships with leading battery and

Skepticism is quite appropriate in such discontinuations – often companies promised miracle batteries, which then disappeared again in the sinking. For example, the so-called “hummingbird” battery from DBM Energy or the company Nanoflowcell, which wanted to revolutionize e-mobility with a liquid battery long ago – nothing has happened. As far as Innolite is concerned, it will be interesting to see how the first practical tests for vehicle applications are proceeding and whether the planned series production capability really does exist. Which automakers may already be in license negotiations with the Swiss, is not yet known.
