Qualcomm Announces Snapdragon 690 Processor Supports 5G And WiFi 6 Networks

Qualcomm today announced its first Snapdragon 6 Series processor supporting 5G networks. This processor is built using 8 nm technology and it comes to succeed the current Snapdragon 675 processor knowing that it includes the Snapdragon X51 modem. This new processor is part of Qualcomm’s plan to provide affordable 5G technology to consumers around the world. HMD Global Oy, LG, Sharp, TCL and Wingtech are expected to announce the first devices to use this processor.

The new Snapdragon 690 processor will support independent and non-standalone 5G networks and 5G global frequencies if they are Sub-6GHz. As far as performance is concerned, the new Qualcomm processor promises to provide 20 percent better performance at the CPU level and 60 percent better performance on the GPU level compared to the Snapdragon 675 processor.

Support for 5G networks is not the only new thing in this new processor, it also allows the ability to record 4K HDR videos at 30 frames per second, and supports cameras with accuracy up to 192 megapixels. Moreover, it also supports smooth video playback when internet data transmission rate is low by optimizing the movement of video parts.

In addition, the new Snapdragon 690 processor supports screens with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and with accuracy of up to FullHD +, as well as fast charging technology + Quick Charge 4. This processor also supports WiFi 6 and Qualcomm FastConnect 6200.

The new Snapdragon 690 processor also comes with the fifth generation of the artificial intelligence engine called ARCSOFT, and one of its key elements is the Hexagon Tensor Accelerator, which makes Snapchat’s real-time filters look smooth and flexible. Moreover, there is another feature in the ARCSOFT AI that allows for smooth navigation while zooming in between the wide-angle camera and the regular camera and telephoto camera.

Through this new processor, Qualcomm hopes that we will not have to wait for long before we get more economical smartphones compatible with 5G networks, and this is really what we hope too.
