Substitute Petersen Brings Freiburg Victory in Frankfurt

Freiburg won important points in the race for the international starting places. Thanks again to Nils Petersen. However, the teams had nothing to do with the first exciting action of the game.

SC Freiburg won 2-1 (1-0) against Eintracht Frankfurt. Vincenzo Grifo put the visitors ahead in the first half (27th minute), after the restart Filip Kostić (54th) equalized. Then it was Nils Petersen again who, seven minutes after coming on as a substitute, gave the visitors the win in Frankfurt am Main (69′).

The SC currently ranks fifth in the Bundesliga table with 48 points. In ninth place, Frankfurt is five points behind the international places.

Shortly after the kick-off, Eintracht keeper Kevin Trapp’s goal was the focus of the action. However, not in the sporting sense. Two men had tied themselves to the two posts. They wore shirts that said Last Generation. Stop the fossil madness!«. The game was interrupted but resumed about three minutes later.

It shouldn’t be the last time that Trapp’s goal was at the center of the action. It was the first good chance for the guests from Freiburg, initiated by a bad pass from largely unimaginative Frankfurters, which Grifo used to lead. After the restart, Filip Kostic equalized the Freiburg lead. But then coach Christian Streich substituted his joker, and Petersen secured success with his 33rd joker goal in the Bundesliga and the 101st goal for SC.

For coach Streich it was also the 105th Bundesliga victory with SC Freiburg. He overtakes Volker Finke in the list of Freiburg record coaches.
