The Supernatural has never been so Out of Control

Goose leather and charm for the new game by the creators of Alan Wake and Quantum Break. The title of 505 Games and Remedy Entertainment is the real surprise of this late summer.

Control, the new Remedy Entertainment game is a lucid nightmare that the former Wachowski brothers would have liked. But be careful not one of those titles that are artistically suggestive with a non-trivial plot but fundamentally unplayable. The Finns behind the successes of Alan Wake and Quantum Break have put together a truly surprising and enjoyable game around a solid combat system.

History. We are Jesse Faden, we are confused and we are looking for our brother Dylan. Everything takes place inside the Federal Bureau of Control, a sort of FBI of the paranormal. When Jesse arrives, the entire building has been infected by an entity called Hiss (hissing) that has smashed art and architecture like in a bad episode in the series At the borders of reality. You will find inverted baskets of blood stains, they remain hypnotized hanging from ceilings and the certainty that nothing is what it seems. In your ears, metallic voices, hissing, restlessness and discomfort will introduce you to zombie employees and evil entities. In short, it will seem to be using an abstract painting in three dimensions.

What we liked. If you exceed the first two or three hours undamaged, to understand after having acquired telekinetic power, the game finally takes shape. The spectacle of the construction and reconstruction of environments stops being a plastic exercise in style, history and gameplay begin to talk to each other and every detail becomes essential for understanding the incomprehensible. For example, if you have time and want to watch what they give on television.

What we didn’t like. The animations are a bit hasty, some phases of the fight are too hectic, there is always a lot of lingering with the stylistic tics typical of Finnish software house games such as the play of light-dark and a sense of graphic background noise that in the long run gets tired .

Judgment. There are games that you start and then you drop them halfway because you seem to have understood everything already. Control has the merit of staying interesting even when the complexity of the battles increases. And something absurd is always to be discovered. Maybe even just a few rooms away.
