It is rich in vitamin C, fiber and herbal compounds that help to health, is used for seasoning of various foods and one of the most popular fruits in the Israeli kitchen. Many medical beliefs and virtues are linked to lemon, some have been proven in research, and some have remained myths. Will drinking hot water with lemon help you lose weight and how can drinking lemon juice actually harm your health?


1. Helps in weight loss
One of the popular theories is that drinking lukewarm water with lemon in the morning increases the body’s metabolic rate and helps with weight loss. This theory has not been proven in clinical trials and has no scientific basis. However, drinking water has been shown in studies to increase the number of calories we burn in the short term, so drinking water may help to lose weight.


Drinking water with lemon is also not harmful, and people report that adding lemon to water leaves a refreshing taste in the mouth and makes them drink more water, which in itself is an excellent nutritional habit. However, in terms of dental health drinking water with lemon can do damage: consultation with a dentist suggests that lemon acid may erode the tooth enamel and thus damage the color of teeth and darken it, so this foot is less recommended. The damage can be reduced by drinking through a straw and rinsing the mouth with water afterwards.


According to another popular theory, the pectin-soluble fiber in the lemon expands in the stomach and helps to feel a feeling of satiety for longer. But the truth is that the soluble fibers are present in the pulp, and therefore the intake of juice does not contribute to satiety. However, animal studies have found that substances in the lemon peel help prevent weight gain.


2. Protects against cancer
A healthy and balanced diet that is rich in vegetables and fruits helps prevent some cancers. Several observational studies have found that people who consume citrus fruits have a lower risk of developing cancer.


Lemon is rich in vitamin C and potassium. Vitamin C can enhance and strengthen the body’s immune system against influenza virus attacks, and potassium, in turn, helps control brain function and blood pressure.

For sore throat, the best medicine is sour lemon. Pour a teaspoon of sour lemon juice in half a gram of water and use it to spit the throat and sore throat.
