Disney+ Release Date And Price in South Africa

The Walt Disney Company has set May 18, 2022, as the launch date for Disney+ in South Africa.

That’s earlier than initially expected, as the company announced last year that it would launch in 42 new countries “this summer” (winter in the southern hemisphere) between June 21 and September 22, 2022.

The company also previously confirmed that its Disney+ service in South Africa will include the Star content hub at launch.

Star’s TV shows and movies are aimed at an adult audience, as opposed to the more family-oriented and franchise-based content elsewhere on Disney+.

The Star hub contains programming from Disney subsidiaries such as FX, Freeform, Hulu, ABC Signature, 20th Television, 20th Century Studios, Searchlight Pictures, Touchstone Pictures, and Hollywood Pictures.

In the UK, this includes shows like Alias, Blackish, Bones, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Grey’s Anatomy, Prison Break, The X-Files, 24 and the cult classic Firefly.

Movies on Star hub include Brave Hearts, Cocktails, Deadpool 2, Good Morning Vietnam, Independence Day, Moulin Rouge, Planet of the Apes, Pretty Woman, White People Can’t Jump, Romeo + Juliet and the cult classic Starship Troopers.

Disney said: “With exclusive original content and thousands of episodes and movies from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic and Star’s general entertainment, Disney+ is the streaming home of some of the world’s most popular stories. ”

Subscribers will have access to Star Wars “The Book of Boba Fett” and “The Mandalorian” from executive producer and writer Jon Favreau.

Disney+ will also include Marvel Studios’ series “Moon Knight,” starring Oscar Isaac as Steven Grant.

Subscribers can also enjoy Disney and Pixar’s Oscar-nominated “Luka,” Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Oscar-winning “Encanto,” and Oscar-winning “Crula.”

For general entertainment, subscribers can also watch titles like The Simpsons, Queen, and The Kardashians.

Fans from National Geographic will be able to watch two seasons of “The World Through the Eyes of Jeff Goldblum.”

Walt Disney announced in early March that it planned to launch a cheaper ad-supported version of Disney+ later this year.

The new service will launch in the U.S. by the end of 2022 and expand internationally next year.
