Dior Exhibits Italian Folklore in A Parade Without an Audience

Christian Dior presented this Wednesday a live fashion show, but without an audience, in the Italian city of Lecce, in a dazzling celebration of local crafts and traditions that included a dance show in the middle of the main baroque square.

The Piazza del Duomo in Lecce was the location for the audience-free unveiling of the Dior Cruise 2021 collection by Maria Grazia Chiuri this evening. Over 2000 years old, this historical city, with its elaborately carved Baroque facades in pale limestone, is one of the most beautiful in Puglia, the region that inspired the collection, and whose jewel-colored traditional luminarie provided the show space’s otherworldly structure.

In the days leading up to the unveiling of the Dior Cruise 2021 collection on.dior.com/cruise21 – Maria Grazia Chiuri spoke about her reasons for choosing the Italian region of Puglia as both the inspiration for the collection and the location for its audience-free show, evoking the region’s natural beauty and savoir-faire traditions, and the unifying importance of collective effort.

Luxury brands are trying to get back on the catwalk after the coronavirus pandemic, and Dior broadcast the event live without the usual variety of celebrities in the front row.
