Point of Sales in Saudi Arabia Recorded 6.88 Billion Riyals Last Week

The value of POS sales in Saudi Arabia decreased during the week ending on September 19, 2020, by 6% to reach about 6.88 billion riyals, compared to 7.33 billion riyals during the previous week.

According to the weekly report of “Point of Sale Operations” issued by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA), the number of executed transactions reached about 64.4 million.

The transactions through the points of sale represent what consumers spend on debit and credit cards in large malls, retail stores, pharmacies, and more.

Consumer spending in Saudi Arabia through sales of point of sale operations decreased by 6.2% during weekly transactions from September 13-19, compared to the previous week.

The value of sales of points of sale, according to the weekly report of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency “SAMA”, issued, Tuesday, about 6.88 billion riyals, compared to 7.33 billion riyals during the week ending on September 12.

The number of POS transactions executed during the week decreased by 4.4%, to reach 64.39 million, compared to 67.35 million transactions in the previous week.

Most of the sales of points of sale within the food and beverage sector amounted to 1.1 billion riyals, through the implementation of 17.58 million operations, followed by restaurants and cafes with 894.1 million riyals through the implementation of 18.46 million operations.

And the city of Riyadh came at the forefront of the Kingdom’s cities in terms of spending through point of sale sales during the week With a value of 2.26 billion riyals, down 5.2% from the previous week, through the implementation of 19.46 million operations, followed by the city of Jeddah with 1.13 billion riyals through 8.9 million operations.

The total revenue of POS sales in the Kingdom during the year 2020 (until the end of September 19) was 238.53 billion riyals, an increase of 20.1% over its value in the same period of 2019, which amounted to 198.67 billion riyals.

The number of operations increased 67.8% to 1.76 billion, compared to 1.05 billion operations in 2019 until the end of September 19.

Consumer spending in the Kingdom, since the beginning of 2020, has focused on the food and beverage sector, with a value of 43.8 billion riyals, through 510.27 million operations.
