The ‘unfaithful mode’ of WhatsApp receives an improvement that benefits the users of these phones

The application implements an important improvement that will help those who need to manage their chats on several cell phones.

WhatsApp is implementing the so-called ‘companion mode’ on iOS phones, which allows two mobile phones to be linked so that the same account can be used on both devices simultaneously.

The messaging platform released this feature in November 2022, although it was initially only available to a limited number of beta tester users as the feature was still under development.

The ‘companion mode’ arrived on Android at the beginning of April, so it was possible to access it if you had the latest application update for this operating system, in order to use WhatsApp on two phones at the same time.

Once the account is linked to the secondary device, you can access the chats and send and receive messages without having to keep the main smartphone connected to the internet. Likewise, the chat history is automatically synchronized, maintaining the usual end-to-end encryption system (E2EE, for its acronym in English).

This modality is also reaching iOS devices, as WABetaInfo has verified in the latest update of WhatsApp for iOS 23.10.76 and 23.11.0.70 -launched through the TestFlight program-, which can now be downloaded through the App Store .

This version indicates some changes implemented, such as a GIF autoplay function, as well as the option for users to link their devices to an existing account, for which it will be necessary to scan the QR code, this is the same procedure than in Android terminals.

From WABetaInfo they have pointed out that, as in Android phones -with which synchronization with an iPhone is also supported, as he has qualified on Twitter- there are functionalities that are not yet available, such as the ability to manage transmission lists and publish updates status from the paired device.

How to activate and use the new “companion mode”?
It is worth reiterating that the companion mode is a feature that remains exclusive to the WhatsApp beta version on Android devices, and therefore can only be used by beta tester users.

To use this function it will be necessary to apply the following steps:

Install WhatsApp Beta on the other phone
Duplicate the WhatsApp app on the cell phone where the account will be synchronized, for this you can use the “Dual Messenger” tool
Access the WhatsApp copy function, select a language and click on “Accept and continue”.

The screen will request to register a phone number to create the account, but then you must press the three-dot button that appears on the screen

Select the option “Pair a device”

A QR code will appear on the phone.

Open the WhatsApp account on the main phone.

Touch the three dots icon to access the ‘Paired devices’ option and select the ‘Pair a device’ function.

At that time, the computer’s camera will be enabled so that the QR code that appears on the other device can be scanned

After a few seconds, the chat history will be synchronized and the user will be able to chat with their contacts from two phones simultaneously and without any problem.
