The Women’s Pavilion in Expo City Celebrates The Creativity of Emirati Women in the Fields of Arts

Dubai Expo City celebrates Emirati Women’s Day on August 28 with an expanded creative program in the women’s pavilion, including the opening of a digital exhibition highlighting the contribution of Emirati women to the arts, in cooperation with the Gulf Art Museum, which is the first digital museum to display the works of artists and photographers from the countries of the Arab Gulf region. and residents therein.

The pavilion hosts, as part of a special event, the singer and songwriter Sarah Al Hashemi and the researcher and poet Dr. Afra Ateeq, after which the public is allowed free entry to the pavilion, including the exhibition of the Gulf Art Museum, which highlights the UAE’s achievements and aspirations in the field of women’s empowerment, from twelve to eight in the evening. . .

Emirati Women’s Day is an opportunity to highlight the country’s global leadership in empowering women and discuss what needs to be done in this field. This year’s theme, “Cooperating for Tomorrow”, was chosen to coincide with the year 2023 as the year of sustainability in the UAE, and highlights the importance of empowering women in combating climate change at a time when the UAE is preparing to host the Climate Summit “COP 28” at Expo City Dubai in later this year.

Marjan Faraidooni, Head of Education and Culture at Expo City Dubai, said: “The UAE provides a role model in promoting gender balance, and in the women’s pavilion, we also believe that the only way to achieve prosperity and sustainability for all is through the full and equal participation of women.”

She added, “Emirati Women’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate our achievements and successes, and art in all its forms is the perfect way to bring important issues closer to people’s hearts. The Women’s Pavilion is honored to host this wonderful group of pioneering and inspiring Emirati artists.”

Participating in the Gulf Art Museum exhibition, which runs until September 11, is Maitha Demithan, who is known for employing scanning techniques; Rawda Al Mazrouei, whose surrealist oil paintings intersect with contemporary Arab art; photographer Alia bint Sultan Al Joker, whose work combines the identity of the United Arab Emirates, past and present; and Fatima Al-Fardan, which explores themes of femininity, hierarchy, and absurdity.
