Turkish Foreign Ministry Summons the US Ambassador

Turkish Foreign Ministry announced that it summoned the US ambassador in Ankara, David Satterfield, on Wednesday, against the backdrop of the US House of Representatives resolution on “Armenian genocide.”

“The US House of Representatives” recognizes the annihilation of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire

The US House of Representatives on Tuesday, adopted a document that provides for the US recognition of the Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire.

“It’s never too late to acknowledge the genocide, and that’s right today,” said one of the document’s authors, Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff.

Turkey strongly refuses to describe what Armenians suffered between 1915 and 1917 during the Ottoman era as “genocide”, insisting that the victims of these events are not only Armenians but also Turks.

Ankara calls on the international community to form an international committee of historians to study the archival documents available on the events in order to develop an objective perception of them.

Armenians assert that 1.5 million Armenian men, women and children in the historic Anatolia region were killed by the Ottomans in persecution and deportation operations against them.
