New Documentary will Tell The Tragic Story of Amy Winehouse

The story of the deceased star will be told again from another perspective.

A new documentary about Amy Winehouse is on the way, 10 years after the singer died of alcohol intoxication at age 27.

The project comes from the BBC and will feature a special contribution from Amy’s mother, Janis Winehouse. According to the BBC, Janis, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2003, chose to participate in the film because her illness “threatens to strip her of Amy’s memories of her.”

“I don’t feel like the world knew the real Amy, the one I mentioned,” Janis said. “I look forward to the opportunity to offer an understanding of her roots and a deeper insight into the real Amy.”

The Rehab singer was previously the subject of the 2015 documentary Amy, which took home the Best Documentary award at the Oscars. Janis participated in the film, as did many of Amy’s loved ones. However, after the film was released, the family released a statement saying they wanted to “disassociate” themselves from the documentary.

“There are specific allegations made against the family and the handlers that are unfounded and unbalanced,” she read in her statement at the time. “The narrative is shaped by the testimony of a small sample of Amy’s associates, many of whom had nothing to do with her in the later years of her life. The opposing opinions expressed to the filmmakers did not make it to the cut. final”.

A spokesperson for the film, directed by Asif Kapadia, told Rolling Stone, “We came on board with the full backing of the Winehouse family and approached the project with complete objectivity. We conducted in the region of 100 interviews with people who knew Amy. The story the film tells is a reflection of our findings from these interviews. ”

In addition to keeping Amy’s legacy alive through these documentaries, Janice previously wrote the 2016 book Loving Amy: A Mother’s Story, which discussed her relationship with her daughter and Amy’s battle with substance abuse.

Janis and her ex-husband Mitch Winehouse also run the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which focuses on educating people about addiction. One of her initiatives is Amy’s Place, a recovery home designed for young women who are overcoming drug and alcohol dependency.

“There are times when you realize that you can’t do anything because addiction is the beast,” she told the middle. “People don’t get it. The public felt we didn’t do enough, but what could we do? We spent a fortune on therapists and psychiatrists and the thing is, if they’re not ready to cleanse you, you can’t make them.”
