“U.S. Department of Defense Reports Strong Restrictions on Huawei Exports”

Huawei fears further blockade by the United States. US Department of Defense may turn to support the new regulations against Huawei, which is contrary to its previous position of “opposing further crackdown on Huawei exports”. Some professionals believe that if Huawei is further restricted, it may hurt related US companies in Huawei’s supply chain.

The person who disclosed the news said that Secretary of Commerce Ross actively called on Secretary of Defense Esper to discuss the restriction on exports to Huawei and will hold a meeting next week on this matter; in addition, a higher-level meeting will be held on February 28. At the meeting, U.S. officials will discuss further “restrictions on mainland and Huawei technology exports.”

In response, the US Department of Commerce announced that this was done in response to the challenges of technology diffusion and accelerated innovation. However, it also makes it more difficult for US companies to bypass the ban on Huawei exports.

Doug Jacobson, a trade regulations lawyer, believes that this move may lead to a decline in sales for some US companies and will not limit Huawei’s ability to manufacture products on the mainland.

US Department of Defense has not responded to this news.
